The launch of the Bharat 6G Vision document in 2023 highlighted India's aspirations for 6G, focusing on making the nation a worldwide leader in sixth-generation wireless technology by 2030. India is proactively pushing forward its 6G technology efforts, with the objective of emerging as a global frontrunner in the creation, development, and implementation of sixth-generation wireless technology by 2030.

It is anticipated to provide speeds reaching up to 1 terabit per second, which is much quicker than the highest speeds of 5G. It will additionally offer ultra-low latency, facilitating applications like remote-operated factories and intelligent vehicles.

A new Centre of Excellence for Classical and Quantum Communications for 6G has been launched this year at the IITM Research Park in Chennai to lead research and development in 6G technologies, collaborating with both academia and industry. The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has earmarked funds for next-gen testbeds to support research on the 6G ecosystem, with approximately 470 proposals presently being assessed for expedited research projects.

The year 2024 represented a crucial moment in India's technological development. Through establishing global alliances, enhancing artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities, expanding 5G infrastructures, and aiming for leadership in 6G, India demonstrated its desire to solidify its status as a global technology center.
